A Prayer based on Mary’s Magnificat

A prayer for today (inspired this morning by Our Lady’s Magnificat, candles that smell like incense, and the light of a new day)

That our souls may proclaim the greatness of the Lord,
and praise would about in word, heart, and mind.
That our spirits might rejoice in God alone,
and we would return often to that inner cell where You alone dwell.
That we might humbly recognize who we are before You,
a mixture of our own dust and Your grace-filled glory.
That day in and day out we would seek first Your kingdom,
trusting that all else shall be added.
That sweeping floors and packing lunches would become vessels of grace,
rather than obstacles to “my” time.
That in the labor for daily bread, we would lean on Your Providence,
rather than our own feeble means:
That in the moments of noise today (both my own and others),
the grace of the still, small voice would be louder still.
That in the opportunities given me, I would be a co-creator with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
sowing love in hearts most in need of it.
That today I would be a lover of Light and a seeker of Truth,
a humble traveler in this narrow Way.

Amen.
