For the Heart That Seeks More.

You have kept the good wine until now.

I do not know when the “now” is.  Yet, I know that You hold it.  Not because You are withholding it, but because You are preparing the wineskin of my heart to receive it.

Oh, and it is good to be prepared by the Lord.

It is good to dance with Him upon bridges.  Upon rocky mountains, upon foggy paths, in new and unknown and yet-to-be-revealed territory.  It is good to take joy and gladness in the waiting, in the in-between, in the untraveled paths.  It is good to laugh loudly on days that feel quite long, in moments that feel quite dry, in seasons that feel longer than desired.

I have spent so many of these days waiting for the good wine, that I have failed to drink of the wine that He has set before me in this time.

He has broken open a new little piece of my heart.  A piece that says: live joyfully and beautifully in the waiting days.  In the single days.  In the hopeful days.

These are the redeeming days.

The ones into which He whispers promises and builds deep, rooted foundations.

The ones that teach true worship.  Deep faith.  Radical hope.

The ones He speaks into:

Do not let your hope loose its fervency, but fan it into flame with your increasing desire.

Let travel immerse your soul in the beauty of the world.  Let it teach you to see beauty and to feel your interior ache for more of it.

Let returns to places you never thought you’d return to remind you how far you’ve come, and indeed how much you have grown and still, how far you have to go.

Let time in the Light teach you who you are and who you will be.

Let days with friends, both new and old, remind you just how good it is to be seen and known and loved.

Don’t let moments of hesitancy keep you from living with generosity.

Hold your heart tenderly but let it be given away and spent well.  Don’t ration your love, for He who gives is able to match your portion.  Able to fill you to overflowing.

Serve with gladness, live with joy, and wait on the One who is faithful.  Carry the Lord wherever, to whomever He calls you, and trust that when the hour is at hand, you will most abundantly taste of the very, very good wine.
